WardInfo Program – Additional Features

Additional Features – by Adding HTVisits.Txt and VTVisits.Txt

NOTE  -- MLS does not provide the capability to provide home and visiting teaching visit reports.  Perhaps that feature will be forthcoming soon.

Features that are added to the default features by including the HTVisits.Txt and / or VTVisits.Txt file include:

Home and/or Visiting Teaching Visit Information – included on family or individual pages wherever a route is displayed.

Home and/or Visiting Teaching Visit Summaries – of the previous 12 months visit records for each family or sister, summarized alphabetically, by percentage of visits, and by not-recently-visited.  The following lists are added to the Home and Visiting Teaching Summaries page:

1)      Visit Records of Home Teachers, Alphabetically and by percentage.

2)      Visit Records of Families, Alphabetically and by percentage.

3)      Families with no recent HT visits (2 to 12 months).

4)      Visit Records of Visiting Teachers, Alphabetically and by percentage.

5)      Visit Records of Sisters, Alphabetically and by percentage.

6)      Sisters with no recent VT visits (2 to 12 months).

Additional Features – by Adding Members.Xls Spreadsheet

Features may be added to the default features by editing the Members.Xls spreadsheet that is created by WardInfo.  Some maintenance of this spreadsheet is done by WardInfo, such as adding new members and removing members that are no longer in the ward.  Generally, data in these spreadsheets is maintained by an individual, and may include any item.  When information is included in the spreadsheet, many new items appear in the output.  Where the information appears, and in which modes it appears is customizable using the column headers of the spreadsheet.  Some examples of potential useful information includes:

Summary of Member Involvement – may be used to track individual’s participation in things like sacrament talks or prayers, cleaning the ward building, feeding the missionaries, etc.

Additional Contact Information – additional phone numbers, email addresses, or other contact methods may be added, as desired.

Pictures for use in a Picture Directory – the name of the picture file for each individual may be specified, if desired.

Other Arbitrary Information – other information may be linked to members and displayed on their pages as desired, such as employer, occupation, musical talent, etc.  This information may be summarized in tabular form.

Additional Features – by Adding FamilyLocations.Xls Spreadsheet

Features may be added to the default features by using the FamilyLocations.Xls spreadsheet that is created by WardInfo.  Some maintenance of this spreadsheet is done by WardInfo, such as adding new families and ‘removing’ families that are no longer in the ward.  When ‘removed’ from the spreadsheet, the family information is actually retained in the spreadsheet for about 1 year, and the former members of the ward appear in the page Old Members.

You may add the latitude and longitude of the address to the FamilyLocations.Xls spreadsheet.  This can be a laborious process, however, instructions are available to use commercial software to make the task much easier.  When the latitude and longitude has been added to the spreadsheet, the following features appear:

Latitude and Longitude – appear on the Family Info page for each family that has a latitude and longitude entered.

20 Closest Neighbors – an additional page is created for each family with a latitude and longitude that has the distance and direction for each of their 20 closest ward neighbors.

Distance to the Ward Building – if the latitude and longitude of the ward building is included in the ChurchLocations.Xls spreadsheet, each Family Info page also includes the distance and direction to the ward building.

Pictures for use in a Picture Directory – the name of the picture file for each family may be specified, if desired.

Additional Features – by Adding ChurchLocations.Xls Spreadsheet

Features may be added to the default features of WardInfo by using the ChurchLocations.Xls spreadsheet that is created by WardInfo.  All information in this spreadsheet must be put there by an individual, either manually, or by using WardInfo advanced commands.  The spreadsheet contains a list of LDS facilities in the desired area, with leader, telephone, and address information.  This information may be entered manually, which is very laborious, or it may be added using optional WardInfo commands and the LDS Church Organization Information program.  LDS facilities that are in the spreadsheet may be manually marked so they will appear in the WardInfo output.

Latitude and longitude coordinates may also be entered for each church facility in the ChurchLocations.Xls spreadsheet, similarly to the FamilyLocations.Xls spreadsheet.  When latitude and longitudes are included in the spreadsheet, one may also request that all LDS facilities within a certain radius (the default is 150 miles) be entered in the WardInfo output.  When entries are included from the ChurchLocations.Xls spreadsheet, the following features appear:

Church Facilities within 150 miles of <your> Ward – an alphabetical list of wards, branches, temples, missions, etc.  If leader and contact information are included in the spreadsheet, these are also available (if the output mode has permissions set for these features).  If latitude and longitude information is included in the spreadsheet, these appear in the output, along with the distance from the ward building.  For stakes, all units in the stake appear in the stake’s listing.

LDS Organization within 150 miles of <your> Ward – a listing of missions, stakes, and temples, with links to the individual pages about each one.

Additional Features – by Adding Directory.Xls Spreadsheet

Features may be added to the default features of WardInfo by using the Directory.Xls spreadsheet that is created by WardInfo.  All information in this spreadsheet must be put there manually.  The spreadsheet contains a list of items that should appear at the end of each of the pre-formatted ward directories produced by WardInfo.  This is useful for including telephone numbers that are not associated with members of the ward, such as stake executive secretary (for temple recommend renewal), family history center, temple, missionaries, etc.

Additional Features – by Adding YouthTempleTrips.Xls Spreadsheet

Features may be added to the default features of WardInfo by using the YouthTempleTrips.Xls spreadsheet that is created by WardInfo.  Some maintenance of this spreadsheet is done by WardInfo, such as adding new youth and removing them when they are no longer in the ward.  Generally, data in these spreadsheets is maintained by an individual, and is composed of dates when youth attended the temple.  When information is included in the spreadsheet, the summary list for youth temple trips appears in the Miscellaneous Lists page, and temple trip attendance data appears on appropriate youth’s individual information pages.
