CE/NR - Digital and Field Technologies for Coastal Environmental Studies

Introduction to GPS/GIS

The purpose of this module is to become familiar with the ESRI ArcView geographic information system (GIS) software. Various geodata types will be introduced, including shape files (point, line, area), image files at different spatial resolutions, and grid files. The geodata types will be displayed using ArcView and data query tools will be used in the field to gather coordinate information of selected locations. The gathered point dataset will be input into a database and then imported into ArcView for display with the existing data layers.
