Course description: Topics of special interest in concrete canoe development. Studies in the analysis, design, test, and construction of concrete canoes.
Credits: 2 credits; repeatable up to 8 credits, although only 6 credits count towards your technical electives (exceptions: 2 credits for environmental engineering option or construction engineering option).
Class Work Schedule: Tuesday - 4:30-6:30 p.m.; Friday - 1:30-5:30 p.m. - Bolz 119 (or 110).
Office Hours: Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 1:30-2:30 p.m. Also, appointments can be scheduled.
Goals:
The primary goals for this quarter are to:
- start & finish construction of the canoe mold
- pour the canoe (early March)
- develop a plan for any additional testing of concrete mixes
- develop any improvements in mix
- present preliminary design & mix to outside experts
- continue fundraising activities
- maintain a personal notebook of your efforts
- maintain the Gantt chart - timeline
- begin drafting the concrete canoe report
- begin canoe display for presentation at the regional competition
- practice 5-minute presentation & padding for the regional competition

Method of Evaluation:
50% - Design and oral presentation of concrete canoe design
25% - Progress reports
25% - Class participation (provide documentation - see below)
For students taking the course for credit, Progress Reports will be due on 25 January, 22 February, and 14 March 2000. Also, your personal notebook will need to be turned in for my review during finals week (your book will be returned).
I would like to see a minimum of 4 hrs/week of work by each student associated with the concrete canoe, particularly of the students taking the class for credit.
